>With a group of invitees,
we activated The Spine maquette for several times throughout a couple of years.
>doing recurrent parkours through the Spine Stations in an immersive context,
meaning we all stayed together.
In this context
>allowed to release the memories of our Spine
>in relation to the memories of The Spine of the earth
>releasing pain and even trauma
>and liberating an internal space
>by which our inner wisdom can resurface and we can trust the visions that emerge.

Common Hazel
Certainly
>inner abilities emerged
enhanced intuition, time traveling, transversing parallel realms, telepathy, invisibility,
plant-morphing, zoo-morphing, etc.
Most importantly
>the boundaries between every-one and every-thing were slowly dissolving,
your sadness becomes mine and my sadness becomes yours
your visions become mine and my visions became yours
>including that of the land and of the million bones under the layers and layers of the local territory.
At the end of The Spine activation we harvest the herbs to manufacture Tinctures.

Tinctures:
>natural medicine kit of cultures around the world.
>hold the medicinal property of the plant in a liquid form, which is believed to accompany and heal emotional wounds.
HARVEST

HARVESTED HERBS ARE PROCESSED AND LEFT FOR MACERATION

ONE MONTH LATER THE HEALING WATERS ARE STRAINED AND TINCTURES BOTTLED
During The Spine activation
the portion of the garden where we installed The Spine that was abandoned, blossomed like a jungle!
So, is this Spine demonstrating the capacity of the earth to feel and remember?
The Spine tinctures take into account the emotional healing properties of the plants associated to each station. For example Melissa herb that opens the subconscious.
But also, the plants as carrier of the memories, feelings and visions that were expressed throughout The Spine experience, as something that gets imprinted in the land, and which the plants absorb.
The Spine tinctures invite reflection on the relationship between personal comfort and the healing of broader societal issues.
Because, this project is situated in a geopolitical reality that is driven by a genocidal economic model, which eliminates the presence of people, and of their memory imprinted in the land, including that of their more than human companions, animals, minerals, plants, ancestors and spirits.
By outsourcing earthly ingredients for production and consumption to industry, we forget that every use and or ingestion of a product connects us with the history of people and a territory. Sometimes we can taste the suffering of others through the history of colonization and war etched in the earth.
With The Spine tinctures, we want to raise questions such as:
Are we willing to ingest the pain of others?

Because we are already doing it!

And if we ingest the pain of others, can we function like a collective medicine for each other?

Spine derives from the Latin word SPINA, and it means both “backbone” and “Thorn”.
Thorn, doorn, épine, espina, like the ones in cactuses or roses.
