EMBRACING TRANSMATERIAL FUTURES SYMPOSIUM (2024)
Narratives on Hybridity and the Labyrinth of Interconnectedness
Kapellica Gallery, Ljubljana (SI)
Organized by the Kersnikova Institute – within the framework of the ‘Inspiration Forum Lab’ and co-financed by the Creative Europe Culture Programme of the European Union, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and City of Ljubljana.

The symposium features artists, researchers, and a scientist whose work embrace the wisdom of diverse knowledge systems, including diasporas futurisms, indigenous traditions and creative thinking. The speakers speak about narratives where science, fiction and spirituality collide, to challenge techno biases that homogenize definitions of the human. The aim of the symposium is to present the need for the hybridization of human identity alongside transmaterials perspectives of the body, which advocate for life entanglements between “living” and “non-living” forms.
Talks:
->> Dissociative Fugues: Another Look at First Encounters, Spaceships and Time Travel in Science Fiction by Peggy Pierrot, intellectual worker, teacher and independent researcher
->> Becoming Data Diva: Developing Semi-fictional Alter Egos as Fabulous Artistic Research Tools by Antye Guenther, visual artist and artist researcher
->> On Syntropy by Andrej Detela, theoretical physicist, inventor, philosopher and writer
->> The (Power Plant) Village, an Embodied Quantum Fiction? by Isabel Burr Raty, transdisciplinary artist and researcher

wpZimmer, Antwerpen (BE) (2022)

Suppoted by Flemish Authorities, The City of Antwerp and c-Takt
Co-curated by Isabel Burr Raty, Ingrid Vranken and Gosie Vervloessem
Invited artists Antye Guenther, Peggy Pierrot, Olave Nduwanje and ooooo
With TOPOS, wpZimmer is shaping collective residencies in which various artists are invited to come together around a theme. For its fourth edition, wpZimmer invited artist Isabel Burr Raty to co-curate the residency around questions from her practice and work.

TOPOS 4 presents the body as inherently Sci-Fi, the body as a multitude, an entanglement of micro and macro entities and performativities considered 'natural' and 'artificial', 'human' and 'more-than-human', 'organic' and ' synthetic', 'analogue' and 'virtual’.

TOPOS 4 brings together a group of artists whose practice's questions always bring them back to the body: What do we mean, feel and think when we talk about our body?
