The Spine
Collective tinctures making exploration
Tinctures are part of the medicine kit of various folk, ancestral and indigenous cultures around the world. Tinctures hold the medicinal property of the plant in a liquid form, which is believed to help accompany, conduct, reveal, and heal emotional wounds or processes.
Tintures can be taken on a daily basis as herbal infusions dissolved in water.
The Spine tinctures propose to explore with the traditional way of making tinctures (alcohol maceration), but to queer it up a bit.
The idea is to manufacture the tinctures at the end of The Spine activation, to deepen on how one becomes a collective earthly body. By envisioning the healing properties of the plants associated to each station, also as carrier of the information that is imprinted in the land:
1. The history of the land
2. The participants' memories and the visions that were revealed and shared
TINCTURES MANUFACTURING
The plants are harvested & put in alcohol maceration.
After a month, the healing liquid is strained and the tinctures bottled.

HARVEST

HARVESTED HERBS ARE PROCESSED AND LEFT FOR MACERATION

ONE MONTH LATER THE HEALING WATERS ARE STRAINED AND TINCTURES BOTTLED

Preliminary study for The Spine has been possible thanks to a multi-year research grant from the Flemish Community (2022-2023) and the support of Viernulvier Ghent and Nadine Brussels (2024-2025).
In collaboration with experts from various fields and research invitees.
