THE SPINE

a living path woven into the earth,

extending across diverse territories

and unfolding through the seasons

The space between the spine’s curves

invites the flow of personal visions

that merge with the memories of the land

Molding a collective earthly body

from which medicinal artifacts are crafted

Allowing the possibility of repair to emerge

How can we think about territory beyond the logics of war—beyond conquest, colonisation, ownership and defense?

THE SPINE welcomes people to immerse their bodies into the landscape, becoming active and regenerative agents in the medicinal tapestry of the surrounding ecosystems.

THE SPINE derives from the Latin spina, meaning both "backbone" and "thorn". It generates objects that bring to light the silenced histories of territories, catalyzing the need to recognize the earth as an affective being and our presence, as fibers braided into its living topographies.

With a background as an activist working with the Rapa Nui people in Easter Island (CL), Isabel Burr Raty’s artistic practice develops methods for collective transformation, through hybrid formats that are installed and adapted to in-situ conditions. These formats invite the public to participate in hyperreality settings that seek to liberate earthly—cosmic bodies from colonial perspectives.
