How can one become a collective earth body,

and in doing so, can we become medicine for each other?

The facilitating team of THE SPINE has the honor of inviting you to join us this summer to activate THE SPINE installation. Over four immersive days, together with a group of 10 participants, we will interact with its flexible matrix, located at Zarlardingas Farm and nature reserve in the Belgian countryside.

THE SPINE is currently situated in a small forest undergoing rewilding, gently punctuating the earth’s body to revitalize her/them and, in doing so, ourselves. Serving as a contained ceremonial unit, THE SPINE proposes a relational interface with the local ecosystem that feels almost like a form of socio-environmental acupuncture, tracing a pathway that resembles a living geoglyph.

THE SPINE ACTIVATION is an experience rooted in an embodied practice, calling us to immerse ourselves inside the textures of the very ground and cross the thresholds between skin and soil. Feeling simultaneously entangled with the cosmic, middle, and infra worlds, we release the memories of our spines, merging them with the memories of land, becoming (re)-generative fibers interwoven into the tapestry of the giant Earth body.

In the company of water, fire, trees, wool, metal, herbs, animals, insects, rocks, the wind and a group of humans; we are welcomed to explore the back-bone network of sensory vessels that follow the site-specific contours of topographical and subterranean bio-geo textures.

The sensory vessels are located on spots that lack biodiversity and are designed to release vital nutrients into the soil, allowing for hidden and even ancestral seeds to sprout. They include interactive holes dug into the earth and platforms on the surface, containing organic and recycled materials that host static and dynamic body scores.

By entering these vessels, we spin our axis, digging into a liminal space between physical and metaphysical realms, to free our imagination, reclaim our wisdom, and awaken the abilities that make us more porous to affective landscapes. This triggers personal and collective visions that circulate inward through our very bone marrow and outward through THE SPINE, creating a fractal pattern that ultimately feeds and nourishes the soil.

As a living archive of THE SPINE ACTIVATION experience, on the last day we share a herbal medicine practice. We prepare tinctures that challenge the colonial logic separating bodies from territories.
